#01: Hello World.

Introduction

Hello and welcome to our Blog! As you already made it here, we assume you are one of three types of persons:

  1. You follow the same passion as we do and you want to find alternatives to the de-facto monopolist Amazon.
  2. You read on some forum that we are three idiot computer science students that think they can do something against a billion-dollar company like Amazon.
  3. You are a student as well and have to write comments under our blogposts.

In the best case, you are type 1. In this case, welcome aboard! We’re happy that you share our passion and hope that we can help you achieving this goal with the website we plan to write.

If you are type 2, we’re always happy to change your mind. We are aware of the fact that it’s not going to be a cakewalk to create a website that has the potential to reduce Amazon’s market power. But together, we are strong! If enough people become aware of better places to buy, there may be a chance that we come our goal a bit closer.

And finally, if you are type 3: Well, of course we hope that you can also identify as type 1. If not, maybe if you follow the development process and see that this can also have benefits for you, we can change your mind.

What exactly are we doing here?

We plan to develop a website that provides you with alternative places to buy other than Amazon. In the beginning, it’s just going to be online stores that may even have better prices than Amazon for some stuff, but we also plan to extend this to your local stores in the future. That way, you can quickly see the prices compared to each other and where the next local store is that offers the same product for the same price or maybe even less.

How are we doing it?

The final discussions are not done yet, but currently it looks like we are going to use Angular for the frontend, NodeJS in the backend, a mariaDB database to store data on our servers and Python for the price crawler. The whole project is going to be available to the public in our GitHub repository: https://github.com/Mueller-Patrick/Betterzon

  1. Hi Betterzon-Team,

first of all, I am not only the third type of person, but also the first one 😉.
I really like the idea that you try to highlight alternatives to Amazon. There are already some price comparison websites, but they neglect all factors except the price. That’s why your project is really something new and useful and I could imagine that there are many people who are interested in the website.
I also like your choice of technologies, in my opinion it fits pretty well to your needs.

I’m looking forward to reading your next blog posts.

    Greetings,
    Patrick

  2. Hi Betterzon Team,
you really set yourself a goal! I came here as a “TYPE 3” and ended up being “TYPE 1”. To make this project a sucess I think it’s most important to be as convenient as possible. There should not be any downsides on choosing Betterzon over Amazon. So if you manage to create a handy and good looking application you might convince me and others to shop on your platform in the future.
We are really looking forward to the further development of your project.
    Kind regards

  3. Hello Betterzon Team,

we are really impressed with the scope of your project. The combination of shopping website and price comparison with local stores sounds very interesting.
Maybe your project is a bit too ambitious for the set time span. You have a noble goal but the quality of your service is highly dependent on the data you collect. We wish you the best luck to reach that goal.
We think your project is very interesting and we are looking forward to your further ideas.

    Greetings MemeVZ Team
